Jonas Hedqvist is a singer, dancer, choreographer and LGBTQ+ advocate, born and raised in Sweden, France and the United Kingdom.
He is passionate about working with equality and mental health and has founded "From Sweden With Love", a fund raising gala with artists from Sweden coming together in a full size stage production raising money for organisations working to support kids and teens in the LGBTQ+ community suffering from mental health issues. A project that has now grown to include a Danish sister project and finally, after 2 years in waiting, the first "From London With Love" will see daylight during London Pride 2021.
After attending the academy of dance and musical theatre Jonas spent a few years at the theatre with various roles and leading roles such as Danny in Grease.
After being crowned "Mr Gay Sweden" in 2000 and releasing the first ever Official Pride Anthem in 2001, his solo career took off and since then he has been releasing music, touring on most continents and performed on stages and arenas of up to 40 000 people. He has also choreographed and produced several music videos, musicals and shows for stage as well as TV in Europe as well as the US.
For the last decade Jonas has been directing musicals such as Spring Awakening and Hair with youth theatre groups as well as producing a number of large scale events such as Copenhagen Pride 2019, World Pride 2021 and smaller productions as The Garden Sessions, Wembley, the Great British Sing-a-long Show, London and My Way - my life through the music of Sinatra performing in his own productions as well as others.
Jonas Hedqvists first single "I Am What I Am", was released in 2001 and was the first official song for Stockholm Pride as well as the first official pride anthem ever. The success single topped several Swedish sales charts and was followed by a club tour that went on for over a year. Subsequent singles have all entered the Swedish lists, with a Top 3 on the singles list and a Top 5 on Sweden Top 40 as best placements. With Summer High, Jonas was named "Newcomer of the Year" in the United Kingdom and both "Welcome To My World" and "Discover The Night" have been not only noticeable at home but also abroad, perhaps especially in the US where Jonas tour "Welcome to my world " went on for an extended run and gained lots of critical acclaim from the audience as well as the press. 2011 marked the 10 year anniversary of the release of I am what I am and this was celebrated with a new recording production with special guests, the iconic disco trio Afro-Dite, winners in the Swedish competition for Eurovision Song Contest. In 2016, Jonas released Survivors, was also the Official Anthem of Copenhagen Pride.
